10. Human microbiota

Content: Demonstrate the presence of normal biota associated with human tissue. Take samples for the microbiological analysis of different locations with normal biota.

Overview
The majority of our epithelial tissues are filled with microorganisms that make up the normal flora or biota of the human body. Among other  bodily functions, these involve a defense mechanism against the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms seeing as, the latter must compete with the former for this habitat in order to develop.

Specific objectives

  • Take a pharyngeal sample (pharyngeal microbiota) for microbiological analysis
  • Take several skin samples (skin microbiota) preferably from fold areas (retroauricular -behind the ear- navel, interdigital) for microbiological analysis.
  • Take samples from the nails of the lower extremities for microbiological analysis.
  • Detect the existence of microorganisms in the pharynx, skin and/or nails of healthy individuals.
  • Distinguish the presence of one or more different microorganisms by the morphology of the developed colonies.
